Tenant Spotlight: Social Justice Fund NW

Our tenants give us so many feel-good moments! Introducing Social Justice Fund NW, a 6-year tenant in our Securities Building, and a group of truly amazing people fighting injustices throughout our region.

We asked SJF about their organization, and here's what they shared...

What makes your organization stand out?

Social Justice Fund Northwest supports organizations that are community based and that use community organizing to achieve their goals. Our grantees are led by people from the communities most impacted by injustice and inequality.

We envision SJF to be a multicultural, antiracist organization that affirms human dignity and struggles against all forms of oppression. We strive to be a broad-based membership organization, collaborating across boundaries of class with our leadership reflecting the communities we serve. We believe that working with those who share a common vision, SJF and our allies will foster positive change.

What is something about your organization that might surprise people?

In 2015, based on our annual report, SJF granted $935,571 to grassroots organizations in the Northwest, which includes 66 grants awarded to 40 organizations bySocial Justice Fund members through our 2015 Giving Projects. In 2018, through our Giving Projects, Rapid Response & SEED Grants, and Donor Advised Funds, we granted out $1.2 million.

What's next for Social Justice Fund? What are you excited about right now?

We are excited about our 40th Anniversary Celebration later this year! We have just sent out our Save the Date Invite. We are excited to celebrate 40 years of engaging with members in a participatory process of grassroots fundraising to support community-based organizations that use community organizing to achieve their goals for social change.

Tell us about your office space?

We are located on the 8th floor of the Securities Building with grand windows surrounding our offices and meeting space. No changes in the recent years! We love our office space!

What is your organization's biggest accomplishment in the Seattle area?

Our biggest accomplishment so far is continuing to be able to support all of our past grantees in their fight for social justice both in the Seattle area and beyond. Our grantees are led by people from the communities most impacted by injustice and inequality.
